A North Wildwood man has been arrestedin the fatal stabbing of a Welsh good Samaritan tourist in Margate,Atlantic County prosecutor Ted Housel said Thursday.
Authorities said Robert Davies, 46, was fighting with anotherperson when Laverne P. Ritch of Penarth, Wales, tried to interveneand was stabbed once in the chest.
Davies has been charged with aggravated manslaughter, possessionof a knife for an unlawful purpose, and tampering with physicalevidence. Authorities said Davies fled and disposed of the knife.
Ritch was on a two-week vacation in the United States and hadbeen visiting friends in the Cherry Hill area.
He had gone to the beach, ate dinner and visited some nightspots before the stabbing occurred Aug. 12.
Police found Ritch when they responded to an emergency call. Hewas taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead. The county medicalexaminer's office said Ritch sustained a single knife wound to theheart.
Davies is expected to appear in court Thursday.
