Officials are assessing the damage of Monday's nor'easter, which slammed Monmouth and Ocean county beaches.

In the sunny calm after the storm Tuesday, Chopper 12 captured video of the damage. Crashing surf, whipping winds and heavy rain eroded the shoreline and shifted sand onto boardwalks and streets. A substantial drop-off of sand is called "scarfing." With just two weeks until the unofficial start of the summer beach season, the damage is a major concern for officials. The lack of sand can make swimming dangerous.

As emergency management workers try to come up with a solution, a cleanup is also under way.
