Did you know that New Jersey is the only state in the nation that does not have an official state song?
New Jersey has a deep musical history, with many legendary musicians hailing from the Garden State. But the state still lacks an official state song.
East Brunswick School of Rock music director Joe Biondi says that he has some ideas of what a state song for New Jersey should represent.
“New Jersey is a lot of attitude…a lot of grittiness,” he says. “Very prideful. Very powerful people.”
Biondi suggested “Born to Run” by New Jersey icon Bruce Springsteen as the official state song.
“People in Jersey are ‘born to run’ with everything life brings them,” he says.
New Jersey’s unofficial state song is “I’m From New Jersey” by New Jersey native Red Mascara. Mascara lobbied for his song to be the official state song of the Garden State for years. He died in 2015 at age 92.
