Authorities at Picatinny Arsenal have given the all-clear after the base and surrounding homes were evacuated.
Officials at the arsenal say someone showed up at the truck gates at around 11:30 a.m. Friday and wanted to get through the gate. The driver did not have proper identification at the time. Security personnel then noticed something they deemed suspicious inside the vehicle, and treated it as if it were an explosive threat.
After an investigation, it was determined that no explosive items were found inside the vehicle.
The investigation prompted the evacuation of the arsenal, as well as homes and businesses nearby.
Route 15 was shut down for several hours in the area, leading to major traffic backups. The road has since been reopened.
The truck gate at the arsenal will remain closed, but normal operations will still occur at the front entrance to the base.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was taken into custody by military police and may face charges for not having proper identification.
