New Jersey voters will have the final say on stem cell research funding this November.
New Jersey lawmakers recently decided to spend $270 million on stem cell research facilities in the Garden State. Now, they want voters to approve the borrowing of another $450 million to fund additional stem cell research.
Supporters say embryonic stem cell work holds the key to treatments for those who are paralyzed or suffering from diseases. Opponents, including President Bush, feel embryonic stem cell work is similar to abortion because it destroys embryos.
Lawmakers say the funding would go to institutions such as colleges, universities and medical research groups.
