New Jersey Transit executives met with frustrated rail commuters Thursday to hear their concerns about recent issues plaguing the agency.
Commuters say that there are many problems with NJ Transit, including delays, cancellations, leaky cars and old equipment.
Some commuters say that they appreciated that the officials came out to meet with commuters, but they say that the leaders already know what the issues are.
“We'd like the trains to run on time. We'd like them not to leak. We'd like there to be seats,” says commuter Darlene Ross. “They're gonna have one of these things. They put on their best suit and they come out, but they know what's wrong.”
Many commuters say that NJ Transit is terrible at letting them know what is happening when there are problems. The commuters say that they wished that NJ Transit would tell them why trains are stopped or delayed or canceled.
Gov. Phil Murphy this week announced the results of an audit into NJ Transit, and plans to fix many of the major issues.
Executive Director Kevin Corbett says that the agency is working hard to change, but that those changes won’t happen overnight.
NJ Transit is also working to install the positive train control safety system. That system is expected to be completed by the end of the day.
