Mass transit passengers traveling from New Jersey to New York to see Pope Francis should expect long lines and delays.

The pope is scheduled to make several stops in the city Friday, including at the United Nations and the Sept. 11 memorial site at the World Trade Center. He'll celebrate Mass in Madison Square Garden Friday night.

New Jersey Transit is adding buses and trains on its inbound routes during off-peak evening hours Friday.

PATH will provide additional trains Friday on its Journal Square to 33rd Street and Hoboken to 33rd Street lines. PATH's 33rd Street stop is one block east of Madison Square Garden.

Travelers are urged to buy roundtrip tickets in advance and to expect some delays.

New York Waterway ferries also are an option.

Many streets and pedestrian walkways are expected be closed, some without advance notice.
