Whether they?re heading to the playground or dorm room, many New Jersey students must visit the doctor?s office for updated vaccines and new shots before enrolling in school.
Doctors say Menactra is highly recommended for people between 11 and 18 and is required for college students. The vaccine guards against meningococcal meningitis. Meanwhile, the American Academy of Pediatrics has approved Gardasil, which protects against the human papillomavirus and the cervical cancer it can sometimes cause. Females between the ages of 9 and 26 are urged to get the shot, however many parents feel it will encourage promiscuous behavior.
TDAP is a shot, which was commonly used as a booster against tetanus and diphtheria. It is now being used to prevent pertussis, or whooping cough.
