Some local business owners tried to keep up with online deals by having their own Cyber Monday sales.

Steep discounts were available at Brielle Cyclery, a New Jersey bike shop, for the annual online shopping event.

Digger Erbe and his brother James say they advertise their online discounts through social media and their website.

"It gives the customers another catalog to really look at, and in this day and age with everything digital, customers are definitely in need of that," Digger says.

Essbee Naturals, a web-based skin care business in Belmar, also offered 20 percent off everything.

Many local shops say they start their online discounts on Black Friday and continue them through the end of the week.
