New Jersey officials in Perth Amboy are collecting donations to help earthquake victims in Puerto Rico.
Photojournalist Ed Hannen spoke to Mayor Wilda Diaz.
The donation drive is supporting the southern part of the island, where New Jersey officials are in contact with the southside representative.
Diaz says the region is specifically looking for donations of first aid kits, hand sanitizer, feminine hygiene products and diapers for children and seniors.
Diaz went on to say that she sympathizes with families who are dealing with the aftershocks of the earthquakes, loss of power and the uncertainty about whether or not their homes are structurally sound.
“The mental health is going to be a big part of the recovery for the people who are living there,” says Diaz.
The city is continuing its donation drive Monday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Alexander F. Jankowski Community Center.
