New Jersey drivers who enjoy the difficult task of text messaging while driving may soon face a fine.
Assemblyman Paul Morierty (D-4th District) has proposed a bill that would make it illegal for drivers to text message. Morierty says studies show that one in five drivers text message while behind the wheel, which he believes is extremely dangerous. A spokesperson for AAA, however, says the organization agrees texting is a problem but does not think more laws are the answer.
If Morierty's bill becomes law, drivers caught texting could face a fine of $250.
