New Jersey congressman calls for national ban on water beads due to health risks
Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. says he will introduce a house bill this week calling for a national ban on water beads.
Pallone says water beads – typically sold as toys for children – are dangerous and their packaging fails to warn parents.
The beads can potentially be life threatening if swallowed since they can grow inside the body and often require surgery to remove.
Water beads have led to 4,500 emergency room visits since 2017.
