January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and New Jersey is ramping up its fight against human traffickers.
The formation of a unit inside the division of criminal justice to specifically target these crimes was announced today at the Trenton War Memorial.
New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin said this new unit will combine resources on local, state and federal levels. Advocacy groups will also help to bring justice for survivors and pull those in charge of the trafficking rings out of society.
“When we devote the resources that we are, I know we can hold accountable and make safer everyone in our state regardless of who they are or where they're from or what they're suffering from,” Platkin said.
New Jersey is considered a hub for these types of crimes because of the proximity to major metropolitan areas.
