News 12 New Jersey’s Brian Donohue spent the day looking at ways that people often abuse punctuation in the Garden State.
Donohue found many signs for businesses that featured unnecessary quotation marks around words, words that incorrectly used apostrophes and signs with exclamation points.
National Punctuation Day was started in 2004 by California writer Jeff Rubin.
Rubin marks the day by organizing an annual essay contest on the importance of proper punctuation.
