Homicide investigators are examining the circumstances behind the death of an infant, who was found in distress in a Newark apartment Wednesday night.
Police say when they arrived at the Chancellor Avenue apartment before 7 p.m., they found the two-month-old boy in cardiac arrest. They are not saying how the baby died or whether there were any signs of foul play.
Newark police officers rushed the baby to Beth Israel, where it died on arrival. Medical professionals say the child could have died for a number of reasons, but that Sudden Infant Death Syndrome can cause an infant to go into cardiac arrest.
