Three people have been
charged after police say they busted a large gathering involving illegal
gambling and drinking Saturday at the Portuguese Soccer Club in Newark.
According to police, they found 50 people gathered inside the club on Wilson
Avenue drinking, playing cards and using gambling machines. More than 400
bottles of beer, wine and liquor were seen.
There was also a full bar and
bartender, but police say they were not able to show proper documentation to
serve liquor.
Three Newark men were arrested and charged in connection to the gathering. They
are 53-year-old Jose DaSilva, 61-year-old Victor Pereira and 31-year-old Byron
Barranza.
