A Newark man has been convicted in the 2025 fatal shooting of a 20-year-old on a Newark street, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

After approximately three hours of deliberations, a jury found 34-year-old Wadi Brown guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Prosecutors say Brown shot and killed Keion Alston, 20, of Newark, on May 10, 2025.

At trial, prosecutors proved that Brown and Alston met on Bergen Street before walking around the corner to Harding Terrace.

Witnesses testified the two men argued before Brown fired six shots at Alston.

Authorities say Alston was struck in the back and died from his injuries.

Brown is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 17 and faces a potential prison term of 30 years to life.
