A Newark man is facing multiple charges after police say he carried out a one-hour crime spree across Middlesex and Mercer counties on Tuesday morning, including pointing a gun during a road rage incident.
South Brunswick police say 34-year-old Bilal Bellamy, who is on parole for manslaughter, committed five armed robberies, assaulted two officers and was wearing an ankle monitor related to previous charges.
Investigators say the first incident happened around 8:50 a.m. near Catelli and Ridge roads right off Route 27, where Bellamy drove alongside another driver, pointed out a gun and attempted to rob him. The driver managed to escape.
Minutes later, police say Bellamy targeted another victim who was sitting in their car. In that case, he showed the gun and stole cash before fleeing.
Authorities say Bellamy then became involved in a road rage incident in Plainsboro, where he also pointed a firearm at a female driver.
He continued to Ewing Township, committing three more armed robberies before officers tracked him down in Phillipsburg and arrested him.
Police say Bellamy was wearing a wig and gloves with skeleton designs and are urging any additional victims or witnesses to come forward.
Bellamy is being charged with multiple counts of armed robbery and possession of a firearm. He is being held at the Middlesex County jail, pending his first court appearance.
