A three-alarm fire damaged an eye care facility on Bergenline Avenue in West New York this morning. It was believed to have started around 4 a.m. and now seems to be under control.
News12 spoke with Chief Dave Donnarumma and he told us the original call came in at 4:30 a.m. Crews from multiple towns responded, including West New York, Jersey City, Hoboken and Bayonne. They extinguished the first floor of the eyeglass shop quickly.
The bulk of the damage is inside the shop, called Avenue Eye Care. Debris can be seen in the window. There is some damage to the floor and hanging from the ceiling.
Chief Donnarumma said the residents living above the eye shop evacuated safely, there were no civilian injuries. There was a minor injury to one of the firefighters that News 12 is aware of. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
