The African-American Heritage Festival hosted its 43rd annual parade Sunday in honor of African-American culture in Newark and in the United States.
Organizers say the parade is the highlight event of the festival, which runs through Monday. Participants marched down Broad Street after skydivers landed at the start of the parade route with a grand entrance.
Residents of all ages and cultural backgrounds enjoyed the event and say the celebration is a great way to educate younger generations about traditions.
"This is one of the most positive events to show that ? besides the violence that goes on in the city of Newark, there is a day when we all come together as a group of people and enjoy each other's company," Shirley Harris, of Newark, says.
