Students from a Newark school are jumping their way to the World Double Dutch Championships in South Carolina.
Daily practices paid off for the sixth- and seventh-graders from the Avon Avenue School. The girls worked hard on their rhythm, agility and synchronization for a chance to compete in the championships.
This is the first year a team from the Newark Public Schools system has qualified for the championships. ?I?m tremendously proud of these girls,? coach Tim Carr said. ?They?ve worked hard. [They?ve] been working since October.?
According to the coach, the way to score points in Double Dutch is through performing different tricks. The girls say in order to perform the tricks, they have to exercise and stretch.
The championships are this weekend.
