A Newark clothing boutique and furniture store had to pivot to remain in business during the pandemic.
Off the Hanger and ANE Clothier is a fashion and furniture studio that was thriving before COVID-19. The owners say that they were forced to close for a time and reassess the business.
“We had to discover various ways to pivot,” says co-owner Lynette Lashawn. “We don’t sell masks, but, so that we could survive, we had to sell face masks.”
The business is now up and running again, and protecting the public is their top priority.
“We’re providing hand sanitizer at the door. We put up a shield at the register. We put up signage throughout the shop to remind people to keep 6 feet distance,” says co-owner Anita Dickens.
The owners say that their goal is to keep their customers safe while also sticking to their love for style and for the city where they grew up.
“I come from a fashionable city. I learned my first fashion tips from the streets of Newark,” says Lashawn.
“This is more than just opening up a shop here. This is about my community and what I can offer my community,” Dickens says.
Customers are not allowed to try on the clothes inside of the store. They are allowed up to 14 business days to make returns if the items have not been worn.
