A Newark church that was damaged after a snowstorm last month is trying to save part of its history.
A portion of the roof of the Shiloh Baptist Church collapsed at the beginning of February after the weight of the snow became too much to support it. The building is nearly 100 years old.
Workers are now trying to save the stained-glass windows that were part of the church. Church members say that the windows are a part of the church’s past and future.
"These stained-glass windows bring back a lot of memories of some of the old soldiers who have gone on, so we want to save as many as possible,” says Wilbert Austin, the chairman of the church’s trustee board.
Austin says that the windows that they do save will go into the new building once it is finally rebuilt.
