A New York man was convicted of attempting to lure and sexually assault a minor after a jury trial in Bergen County Superior Court, authorities said.
According to court documents and trial evidence, 56-year-old Shaheen Lariff tried to contact a person on a dating app whom he believed to be a 15-year-old boy. The person was an undercover officer.
Prosecutors said Lariff identified himself as a 31-year-old man and made comments about sexual acts. He later traveled to meet the person and was arrested by law enforcement.
The state Office of the Attorney General said Lariff was found guilty of luring or enticing a child, attempted sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
