? The new year arrived with violence in Newark as a triple stabbing and fatal shooting took place on the same block within hours of each other.

The shooting took place in front of 223 Chadwick Ave. when shots were fired at a car containing three people at around 3 a.m. The driver, 26-year-old Robert Curry, was killed and one passenger was injured. The injured passenger is in stable condition, and a third person in the vehicle was not injured. Police say the shooting was not random.

Just hours before on the same block, one man and two women were stabbed at 208 Chadwick Ave. The injuries are not life-threatening. The wife of the man who was stabbed, who is also the mother of the two female victims, says she believes the three were trying to break up a fight.
