The plan of a potential merging of a Seaside Heights school district into Toms River’s as part of a regionalization effort has been updated.
The single elementary school in Seaside Heights would remain open for the next five years under a new amendment. Toms River school officials confirmed with News 12 New Jersey that this proposal was submitted by the district to the state on Tuesday.
Many parents of students who attend Hugh J. Boyd Jr. Elementary School were concerned about the original plan, which would close the facility and send them to East Dover Elementary in Toms River.
Under the new proposal, the school would remain open for five years if enrollment levels are satisfactory.
A referendum vote on the merger with this new proposal could happen in April.
