New Jersey started off 2019 with the birth of a handful of new residents.
News 12 New Jersey spoke to the parents of one new child born soon after the clock struck midnight.
“Her name is Avanthika…Avanthika means ‘princess,’” says new father Ananth Vijaykumar of Fair Lawn.
The child was born at 12:34 a.m. at Hackensack University Medical Center.
Princess Avanthika Vijaykumar was due on Jan. 14, but was born two weeks early.
The nursing staff at the hospital says that they were excited to be a part of the “New Year’s baby” delivery. But one nurse says that the doctors may have been even more excited.
“We’re there like, ‘make sure everything happens safety and smoothly,’ and they’re the ones who say ‘Let’s see if we can time it.’ But it’s all in Mother Nature’s hands,” says the nurse.
“We’re just happy the baby came out healthy,” Vijaykumar says.
The very first baby of 2019 in New Jersey appears to have been born at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly. Baby Dalton was born at 12:30 a.m.
