New Jersey will receive $30.2 million from a nationwide Johnson & Johnson talc settlement, according to state Attorney General Matt Platkin.
The pharmaceutical company, based in New Brunswick, agreed to pay $700 million as part of a settlement over its talc products, like baby powder and body power products.
New Jersey is one of 42 states that sued the corporate giant. The state says for decades, Johnson & Johnson marketed talc products to women and teenage girls as safe even though studies showed otherwise.
Deceptive promotions and misleading advertisements are violations of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act.
As part of the settlements, Johnson & Johnson is prohibited from promoting, manufacturing, selling and distributing talc powder products in the United States.
Johnson & Johnson also faces a class action suit.
