New Jersey will distribute masks to commuters and travelers as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to affect air quality across the region, Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Thursday.
Sherrill said she directed NJ Transit and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to make select quantities of masks available at transit locations and rest areas along the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will also distribute masks.
The governor encouraged residents to monitor air quality conditions through AirNow.gov and take precautions, particularly when spending time outdoors.
Smoke from wildfires burning in Canada has drifted into parts of the Northeast, prompting air quality concerns across New Jersey and neighboring states.
