Thousands of runners hit the pavement Sunday, taking part in the annual New Jersey Marathon.
Competitors took part in the 26.2-mile race through the streets and boardwalk of Long Branch.
About 8,500 participants signed up for the event. While most hailed from the Garden State, 35 other states and 10 countries were represented by runners.
Participants say spectators help make the event a positive experience for all involved.
"When you walk through the different sections and different streets of Long Branch, everybody in all the houses are out and handing you water and food and drink," says Joan Glassner. "It's a wonderful positive thing."
