New billboards high above traffic in Newark are making visitors and residents think twice.
The billboards contain strong messages, such as ?Help Wanted. Stop the Killings in Newark Now,? to try to combat violence in the city. Joseph DelGrosso, President of the Newark Teachers Union, came up with the idea of the billboards. DelGrosso says he told the mayor he was going to tackle the issue of violence, but admits he wasn?t specific.
DelGrosso says because the murder rate is so high in Newark, it is hard to recruit new teachers. There are currently six billboards up, but the union plans to put up more throughout Essex County.
