Neptune Township teacher on leave after knife found in desk drawer
The school district says students were never in any danger.

A Neptune Township teacher has been placed on leave after a large knife was found in his desk drawer at the middle school.
Kevin J. Hasbrouck, 36, was charged with a fourth-degree weapons offense, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. On Feb. 3, Neptune Township police were called to Neptune Middle School for a weapons investigation. According to the Prosecutor's Office, police searched Hasbrouck's desk and found a large stainless-steel knife with a black handle.
In a letter to Neptune Middle School parents, Superintendent of Schools Tami Crader confirmed the arrest.
"We have been informed that a member of our teaching staff has been arrested. Please know that the individual had already been removed from the classroom prior to the arrest, and at no time were students in danger," Crader said.
The superintendent also told News 12 that Hasbrouck had been an employee of the school district for 10 years and "is currently on leave."
The superintendent said she was unable to comment further on personnel matters or situations being investigated by law enforcement.
