Beach crews along Barnegat Bay Island are finding needles washing up in Lavallette, and now there are reports of dozens finding their way to the shores in Mantoloking.
The disturbing findings come as we head into the final days and weeks of the summer of 2018.
Inside the Mantoloking police station, the crews have assembled more than two dozen needles picked up in the sand Tuesday alone.
Police have no idea where they came from, but they washed up during the stormy weather yesterday in the Northeast winds.
In addition to the needles, crews also have found a higher than usual number of plastic items.
Beaches remain open in Mantoloking.
