The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado in Holland Township, the 11th tornado in New Jersey in 2023.
The tornado confirmation comes after storms and multiple rounds of rain moved through the state Monday. Wind speeds were clocked in between 85 and 95 miles per hour.
NWS says the tornado started along Reiglesville - Milford Road in Holland Township which resulted in tree damage and significant damage to two farm outbuildings. They say the path stayed over mostly open fields until Crab Apple Hill Road where additional tree damage, including a large, uprooted tree was noted.
Though additional damage was noted in a path downstream from this area, NWS says the damage was not continuous and appeared to be more likely straight-line winds.
Monday’s storms caused power outages for thousands of customers and left damage. NWS says sporadic tree damage occurred in a path downstream of the Holland Township tornado, including a tree blown into a house on Milford Warren Glen Road.
NWS says the tree damage continued to the area of Creveling Road and Johnston Drive. They say several trees were uprooted and at least two softwood trees were snapped at the trunk.
