A 21-year-old man was arrested in Massapequa early Saturday
morning, accused in an attempted robbery.
Police say Aidan Doober approached a 56-year-old man in
front of 95 Unqua Road and demanded the victim’s cash and keys.
They say a 51-year-old man who was nearby attempted to help
the victim, when Doober threatened that 51-year-old man with a knife.
According to a police release: “In fear of his safety, the
victim discharged his firearm and struck defendant Dooher once in the leg. The
defendant fled the scene on foot, running northbound on Unqua Road. Police
located him soon after and were able to place him under arrest.”
Doober was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for
treatment. He faces two counts of attempted robbery, two counts of menacing and
criminal possession of a weapon.
He will be arraigned when medically practical.
Details surrounding the incident were sparse during the day.
News 12 reported that a gunshot was fired through a neighbor’s home, but no one
was injured.
