The MTA has approved a plan to discount monthly tickets on the Long Island Rail Road, but it does not apply to Long Islanders commuting to the city.

The board unanimously voted in favor of giving the 10% break to monthly pass holders traveling between stations within New York City.

Since it’s being funded out of a state account for transit improvements in the city, it is not available for Nassau or Suffolk counties.

The MTA says it will take effect in July and last one year.
