Mother, child among pedestrians hit in separate crashes across New Jersey

Three separate pedestrian crashes were reported across New Jersey on Tuesday.

In Newark, a mother and her 5-year-old child were hit by a car around 1:15 p.m. near Central Avenue and South 9th Street. Both were taken to a hospital for evaluation and are expected to recover. Police say the driver stayed at the scene, and the crash remains under investigation.

Just before 9 p.m. in West Orange, a man was struck at Mount Pleasant Avenue and Brennan Drive. Police say he suffered minor injuries, refused medical attention and was taken home by his wife. The driver remained on scene.

And in East Rutherford, a 72-year-old woman was trapped under a car after being hit near Paterson Avenue and Lincoln Place just before 6 p.m. She was taken to Hackensack Hospital with head trauma and other injuries. Police say the driver, a 30-year-old woman from East Rutherford, stayed on scene. The crash remains under investigation.
