The immigration debate heated up in Morristown Saturday when hundreds on both sides of the issue lined up outside Town Hall for a rally.
People shouted at each other on either side of South Street. The ProAmerica Society rallied against immigration and amnesty for undocumented workers and directly across the street, pro-immigrant individuals rallied for reform.
As the rally intensified and the chants got louder, more reinforcements were brought in. Police stood in the middle of the street to keep both factions apart.
Morristown Mayor Donald Cresitello, who is pushing for his police officers to act as immigration agents as well, spoke at the ProAmerica rally.
Police arrested two people for inciting violence when they broke through barriers and confronted protestors on the pro-immigration side. Morristown is still waiting for federal approval to deputize its officers.
