More than 50 animals have been rescued from living in unsanitary conditions after two separate animal cruelty cases, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecutor says that both cases took place in Elizabeth over the last month.
Authorities say that 13 dogs were recovered from a home on the 200 block of Fulton Street on July 24. Officials say that the dogs were being kept in unsanitary conditions inside crates.
Owner Rosa Montero is now facing several counts of animal cruelty.
In the other case, 39 dogs and cats were rescued from a home on the 600 block of Chetwood Street on Aug. 17. Officials say that many of the animals had never received any type of veterinary care.
The animals are now all in the care of several animal shelters and may be put up for adoption later.
Officials did not say if any arrests were made in the Chetwood Street case.
