Famed Triple Crown winner American Pharoah will soon be racing in New Jersey.
The horse is scheduled to participate in the Haskell Invitational on Aug. 2 at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport. Racetrack officials have been working hard to get the track ready for the more than 60,000 people expected to attend the event.
"I guess we'll plan for 60,000. If there's more, we'll do our best to accommodate," says racetrack media relations director John Heims. "If there's less, at least we're prepared."
Reserved seating at the track has been sold out for weeks, after it was announced American Pharoah will be racing. General admission to the track won't be capped, so spectators are advised to show up early.
"It's six dollars to get into the grandstand. It's not an expensive day," says Heims. "You get to see one of the biggest events in New Jersey history and certain one of the best horses to ever run here."
Parking at the track will cost $20. Monmouth Park officials say they have intentionally increased the parking price to encourage people to carpool or use mass transit.
New Jersey Transit will be adding additional stops at Monmouth Park on race day, with trains running along the coast from New York City to Bay Head
