The Associated Humane Societies Shelter in Tinton Falls is pleading for help as it runs out of dog food.
The shelter, which is currently caring for 63 dogs, says donations have been slowing down. It says the place is usually at maximum capacity, making it even harder to continue its efforts.
"As of this morning, we have two cases of canned dog food. For the large dogs, we have no canned food, We have a few bags of dry food, enough to last us about a week," said Meghan, the shelter's kennel manager.
The shelter posted on it social media pages on Wednesday, calling for urgent help - and the community is already stepping in.
"We saw a post on Instagram that the shelter needed some items; they were apparently running out canned dog foods," said John Kabourakis, who came to make a donation. "So we went out we grabbed some canned dog food, we also got some dry food, too."
Staff say they hope to see more donations in the coming days. In addition to food, the shelter is also seeking volunteers, foster families, and basic supplies such as clean sheets, towels and blankets.
Donations can be dropped off directly at the Tinton Falls shelter. An Amazon wish list has also been created for those who prefer to donate online.
