The mother of one of the victims in Wednesday’s deadly school shooting in Florida made an emotional plea to President Donald Trump.
News 12 New Jersey has learned that one of the 17 victims, Alyssa Alhadeff, was originally from Woodcliff Lake. This is according to Woodcliff Lake Mayor Carlos Rendo, who offered his condolences on Facebook Thursday.
The family had apparently moved from New Jersey to Parkland, Florida, a few years ago.
Alyssa’s mother Lori Alhadeff, on CNN, pleaded with lawmakers to do something to stop gun violence in the United States.
“President Trump, you say, ‘What can you do?’ You can stop the guns from getting into these children’s hands. Put metal detectors at every entrance to the schools. What can you do? You can do a lot. This is not fair to our families that our children go to school and have to get killed,” Lori Alhadeff said.
Alyssa Alhadeff, 13 other students and three faculty members of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were gunned down Wednesday by a former student wielding an AR-15 firearm, authorities say.
Officials say that Nikolas Cruz, 19, confessed to the shooting. He was charged with 17 counts of premediated murder when he appeared before a judge Thursday.
