The mother of an 8-year-old girl who survived after falling from a seventh-floor window last week says she is devastated by the accident, but thought her daughter was safe in bed.
Robin Antonio says the New York City Administration for Children's Services tried to remove six of her children from her home during an investigation since her daughter, Destiny's, fall. Antonio says though Destiny's bedroom window had guards, the correct fastener was never installed to prevent the window from opening more than four inches.
Antonio says she hopes to draft legislation in Destiny's name to prevent other incidents and require NYCHA window inspections. Destiny remains hospitalized in serious condition.
