A free pilot program by the
Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools is offering high school
seniors forklift repair certification.
“All these companies are really having
a difficult time finding qualified technicians, will even take beginning technicians,”
says Sean McDonald, MCVTS director of career and technical education.
Currently, as many as 300
positions for the skill are available in New Jersey, which is a hub for
distribution industries such as Amazon.
The program gives potential entry
into an apprentice program after six months or less of virtual and hands-on
instruction.
Most technician salaries range
from $37,000 to $65,000, with full benefits.
All senior students in Middlesex
County are eligible for the program. Recent graduates and out-of-school youth
will also be considered. Applications are available on the Middlesex County
Vocational and Technical School
website.
