(07/24/06) TRENTON ? A group of Mercer County volunteers who normally deal with world disasters have shifted gears to help residents in their own back yards.
Members of ?The Humanitarian Project? are working to help Trenton residents affected by recent flooding in the state. The group, which has dealt with Hurricane Katrina?s aftermath and tsunami victims, are offering assistance to individuals who lived in basement apartments near the Delaware River. Flood victims say the disaster caught them by surprise because they were never warned about the possibility of flooding.
According to victims, the flood aftermath would have been much worse without the help of The Humanitarian Project. Representatives of the volunteer group say they couldn?t turn their back on residents so close to home. Despite their generous efforts, group members say their recent undertaking has left them in bad financial shape.
