As the 2020 NFL Draft winded down, former Georgia linebacker Tae Crowder hadn’t heard his name called yet.
Crowder was on the phone with his agent discussing the next possible steps to take.
“It was crazy, because I was already planning on signing for a free agent that whole process. I can’t even explain how it felt,” he says.
But Crowder’s future was decided on the very last pick of the draft – No. 225. Crowder was selected by the New York Giants. Crowder was dubbed “Mr. Irrelevant” – a name bestowed upon the very last person picked in the NFL Draft. It is a name Crowder takes as a badge of honor.
“I can’t complain about getting drafted and coming to a great organization. So, like I said, I’m truly blessed,” he says.
Crowder says that he didn’t know much about the Mr. Irrelevant title. But he says that he is going to have fun with hit now, especially after seeing how his hometown of Pine Mountain, Georgia reacted.
“It’s a pretty big deal where I’m from, from a small town. People don’t really make it from here. It brought the city out. They’ve got my name hanging up in different places like that. So, it was just a blessing and a dream come true for me,” he says.
Crowder will join former Georgia teammate and coincidentally the Giants’ first overall pick – Andrew Thomas. He says that he is ready to show Giants fans what he can do.
I’m an aggressive player and a disciplined player. A hard-working player. I like to make plays for the team,” Crowder says.
Mr. Irrelevant typically gets a trip to Newport Beach and Disney land. But with the pandemic, Crowder says that “Irrelevant Week” plans are on hold.
