The mayor of Woodland Park says that cars swept away from a nearby car dealership are to blame for flooding in his town.
Flooding this weekend caused vehicles from a Jeep dealership on Route 46 in Little Falls to be washed away. Those vehicles then dammed up the Peckman River, sending water into businesses and homes in nearby Woodland Park.
A video shows the Jeeps flowing down the river as water rushes by.
The flooding left a lot of damage in its wake. Video taken by a resident shows large mud mounds in the parking lot of the Best Buy off Route 46. Woodland Park Mayor Keith Kazmark says that about $3.5 million worth of damage occurred in the town.
Kazmark says that 210 homes and 75 businesses were flooded out, along with Route 46.
Kazmark says that Woodland Park police have often ordered the dealership to move the cars due to the potential of flooding, but that it did not happen prior to this weekend’s storm.
Little Falls also suffered damage with some home foundations crumbling under the force of the water.
Gov. Phil Murphy toured the flood-damaged areas Monday evening.
