Mayor Eric Adams met with President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming border czar, Tom Homan, on Thursday.

The two discussed plans to tackle violent crime in New York City, focusing on undocumented individuals who repeatedly commit violent offenses.

“We cannot allow dangerous individuals to commit repeated violent acts of violence in our cities across America,” said Adams.

The mayor emphasized that New York City will continue to uphold its status as a sanctuary city and would protecting the rights of law-abiding immigrants.

Adam's said his legal team is exploring the use of executive orders to address violent offenders.

“I’m going to attempt to use my executive orders to go after dangerous people who are committing dangerous acts against asylum seekers and long-term New Yorkers,” Adams said.

City officials report a decline in the number of migrants arriving in New York. They say they will be closing 25 shelters across the city.
