A Marine from New Jersey was killed Monday when a transport plane crashed in Mississippi.

Monmouth County officials identified Daniel Baldassare from Colts Neck Wednesday as one of 15 Marines killed in the crash. A Navy corpsman was also killed.

Baldassare graduated from Colts Neck High School in 2015. According to his social media pages, he celebrated his birthday on June 30.

The Marine Corps refueling plane took off from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in North Carolina. It was heading to Naval Air Facility El Centro in California. The plane was transporting personnel and equipment.

The Marine Corps said Wednesday that the cause of the crash remains under investigation and offered no information on whether the plane issued a distress call.
