Police tell News 12 the 46-year-old man shot in the head in front of 1503 White Plains Rd. was the intended target.
Several candles are lit up in front of a Parkchester liquor store, as neighbors honor the life of the 46-year-old man shot in the head Monday evening.
Police say they responded to a call of a shooting in front of the liquor store at 1503 White Plains Rd. around 8:12 p.m.
The victim was found there with serious injuries and taken to Jacobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators have now identified the victim as Shaun Whitchett.
On Tuesday, neighbors lighting up candles say they remember Whitchett as a "good guy."
"He never bothered anyone...it was unfair," said one neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous for her safety.
Another neighbor didn't know the victim but says the community is feeling the loss and everyone is impacted.
Investigators have not shared a description of the gunman, who remains on the run as of Tuesday morning.
In previous coverage, News 12 crews reviewed surveillance video that shows a man slowly walking along White Plains Road near Archer Street wearing a long blue rain jacket. He can be seen walking up to the victim, raise a handgun and open fire.
The alleged gunman is then seen running down the same direction he came.
News 12 crews attempted to speak with Whitchett's family at his last known address, but family members refused to comment on the tragic death.
